Any plans for total upvotes to be displayed on our profiles? potentially with profile perks/medals as rewards for milestones or special events?
I feel like even a barebones implementation could be a massive boon for user retention, as probably the main reason I started using reddit regularly was because it was so satisfying seeing my profile karma grow, but maybe thats just my ADHD brain talking.
(also a site wide karma leaderboard would be cool ;P)
Reddit system bad lemmy system good
Here is a the devs addressing this point: https://lemmy.ml/post/31214
So its not happening? That would be pretty disappointing.
It’s a “feature” which serves no practical purpose and whose whole point seems to be abuse the user’s insecurities and neurobiology to maximise the time they spend on the website.
edit: Maybe it can be implemented later. The discussion was a while ago so decisions can possibly change.
Yes you have some good points. But still, refusing to compete with other websites for user retention by not using the same pseudo-unethical strategies seems extremely purist in a leftcom sort of way. We do not live in a communist utopia so I don’t see the point in pretending we have to live up to those imaginary standards. I suggested a karma / profile progression system simply cause I find it fun and harmless, and I figure the benefits far outweigh any practically nonexistent downsides. Anyhow I will of course support any conclusion you developers reach.
If upvote count be displayed, then add downvote count too.
To be honest? I agree.
