    Wondering what changed (apart from the obvious erosion of worker rights and class consciousness post the USSR collapse). There is a lot of bloodthirst to the point that the ruling class is somehow more reasonable than the “polls”.

      Its gotta be at least two things:

      • Media companies, who’ve always been hawkish, are much more centralized than a few years ago. So the strongest interests, including finance capital, military industry, tech, are all united in a push for war.
      • Social media has become a much more powerful indoctrination machine than print or TV news was ever capable of. If they want a war, its easier than ever to convince people to support it.

      The US hasn’t had a war on its own soil for a while now, War doesn’t concern average Americans since it’s always something happening “over there”. Generations of this breathes apathy and gives room for corrupt psychopaths to go wild.
