(in moderation)
Wrinkles and laugh lines are just the consequences of a life lived. Really we should celebrate them.
Nobody cares that a 50 year old doesn’t look 20. Meanwhile each laugh line indicates days filled with joy.
A friend of mine once said:
What’s the point in living forever if all you eat is salad?
I really love salad. Like an insane amount. Crunchy greens, baby spinach, every kind of onion, hit me with those sliced radishes! Sliced cucumber, carrots, bell pepper! And most days I don’t even want dressing. Or meat in there.
Which means that I don’t get enough fuel for sustenance, and I don’t get enough protein!
I guess what I’m saying is, even salad in moderation.
I am so jelly of you and the folks who love excersise.
You say that, but I am also fat.
how you get fat on salad?
Salad sauces are entirely oils, they can add a surprising number of calories
Maybe by deep frying it? Eating lots of desserts? Sugary drinks?
Now thats my type of salad. deep fried and cheese sauce and I could eat salad for every meal!
I used to think I didn’t like exercise. As it turns out, I’m just not that into running. I love biking though.
I’ve always loved weight lifting as well, though, so idk
tried them all. don’t get me wrong I like walking and biking when traveling over any vehicle but again I don’t get like. Oh I really need to bike or take a walk. I mostly walk now and do the standing desk. I do actually prefer the desk as well as sitting is very confining.
It gets a habit really quick, if you find something you enjoy.
6 years ago it started as slight detours while cycling home from work, now I get itchy if I don’t manage at least 100km/week on my bike.
I rode a bike commuting for years and it was fun but no itchy for me working form home now. I miss it some especially the awesome route I had but all the same I just don’t pick up habits well I guess.
I listen to podcasts. Maybe it’s really just not yours, but for me it’s a really nice feeling to be somewhere in the middle of nowhere, learning something new and seeing new things.
Try topping your salad with four bean salad (green beans, wax beans, kidney beans and garbanzo beans). Will improve the nutrition including protein.
You can’t make friends with salad…
Dax: Steamed azna would put years on your life.
Sisko: Dax, I don’t want years on my life, if I can only eat steamed azna.

I don’t post too much Star Trek but it felt particularly relevant ha.
Everything in moderation, including moderation
That was my go-to saying when I was actively using.
As a fatty mcfat fat person, there are limits. Having a treat here and there is no issue, enjoy that deep fried state fair concoction, just don’t eat it every day. Buy that cute trinket or sweater or game, just don’t buy all of them every time. Enjoy the sun shine, don’t roast yourself.
As a fatty mcfat fat person
don’t roast yourself
I mean no one said “flee the sun”. They said “use sunscreen”.
Some take avoiding sunshine pretty seriously. I see a lot of Asians doing that, carrying parasols around and huge hats and it really does feel very “flee the sun”.
I mean that’s still spending time outside. If parasols and big hats weren’t so thoroughly OUT fashion-wise where I live I’d absolutely rock one of those. The cooling effect looks really nice.
Well, that and my gigantic head doesn’t work with the vast majority of hats.
But yeah being in the shade barely counts as protection against UV radiation anyway. If you understand the science, you do that to cool down and to see better more than you do it to avoid UV rays.
I think they do it because culturally they really like pale white skin or something. Sorta the opposite how most people where I live value a tanned skin.
Yes they have a culture of thinking pale is better but actually so did most of the world for a while. It meant you didn’t work outside.
But that’s more about using lightening and skin “brightening” products cause getting a tan is completely fine in the summer.
The umbrella is just cause try existing in that kind of heat and humidity and you will realize adding portable shade that also keeps heat directly off your head like a hat is a godsend and can keep sun stroke from happening.
We don’t have such heat and humidity where I live. But I guess it could also be just a habit for them
The portion makes the poison.
What’s the LD50 of high quality olive oil?
From /r/theydidthemath, six years ago:
solpyro
An MSDS from naturalsourcing.com for “olive oil grade a” gives an LD50 of >2000mg/kg. (I couldn’t copy the link on mobile, sorry)
An average human is around 62kg (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_body_weight) and they would need to ingest over 124g.
Olive oil has a density of .918g/cm³ (https://hypertextbook.com/facts/2000/IngaDorfman.shtml) making this dose about 114ml.
…which, I’m going to be honest, seems low.
3.8 ounces? Yikes, that does seem low.
Yeah, 3 shots of olive oil and you’re dead? That can’t be right.
Edit: Yeah it’s not right. Here’s the source the reddit post didn’t link: https://spoonnaturallubricant.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/MSDS_Olive_Oil_Grade_A.pdf
Oral: Expected to possess a relatively low degree of acute oral toxicity (LD50 expected to be >2000 mg/kg)
The commenter took that point and used 2000 mg as lethal dose, when the reference material basically said “I dunno, but at it’s more than this.”
That doesn’t sound right. 124ml of olive oil will probably do funny things to your shit and make you feel weird, but I very much doubt it’ll kill you unless you inject it straight into your aorta.
It’s “>2000mg/kg”
To me, this says that they didn’t bother testing any doses higher than that. So, who knows how much you really need to ingest to see an effect. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
That value also seems pretty reasonable, since who would replace the milk of their morning cereal with olive oil.
Anything in excess is bad for you. Even water.
We must beware of the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide
My great grandpa ingested dihydrogen monoxide every day of his life, often more than once. And now he’s dead.
Whatever you do, don’t breathe it in!
Well that’s just plain silly

What a wild stance to take.

Having to come to terms with that. I usually don’t drink enough, like less than a litre on some days if I don’t notice it, so after contemplating a purchase of a Stanley Cup knock-off for months, I finally bought one and started drinking water like a maniac. Like 4-5l per day. Have to actively keep myself in check not to drink too much. Although, it’s been quite hot recently so maybe it’s not as dire as I make it out be
Isn’t it mostly okay as long as you intersperse an electrolyte add-in?
only bad effect im aware of is passing out because of electrolyte dilution.

You only have so many beats in your heart, don’t waste them all exercising
But also don’t not exercise because it’ll let you live to experience many more and in a better quality of life.

Paradoxically, exercising makes your heart beat slower, this increasing your lifespan.
Sadly all that is undone by the time you’d have to spend exercising instead of enjoying life.
Alternatively, your exercise could be hiking in the mountains or something similarly awesome.
Rinse cold after showering. Heart exercise without exercise.
I have two big mantras I subscribe to:
- “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing in excess.”
- “All things in moderation.”
Somewhere between the two, we balance the debauchery, somewhat.
“Everything in moderation, including moderation.”
I go by: “Do boring things fast and fun things slowly.”
Buying a pretty nice coffee bean grinder made such a bigger difference in the quality of the coffee I drink that I count it as a solid win.
Really…I have never sprung for a better grinder but do spend on good beans and either pour over or French press, I’ll have to look into that thanks!
I was using two already older but pretty good and not cheap hand grinders (Knock Feld 2 and Helor 101). But I recently got the Fellow Ode Gen 2 flat burr grinder ($300) for V60 pour overs at home and it was a complete game changer. At the same time, I took the somewhat recently purchased Fellow Opus conical grinder to the office to use with the Clever Dripper and now my coffee both at home and at the office are substantially better than before.
My Pa used to say, it doesn’t cost more to go first class, you just pay a little longer.
He wasn’t good at math, but he was good at life.
Most things are fine in moderation, demonizing everything you like is how you get miserable and crave them more
memento mori
The feeling of being skinny grants way more satisfaction for me than food ever will. I wish to stay out of the sun as much as I can so I can be pale forever.
