Agreed, I think being on-site has large social advantages.
I moved from a smaller city (~100k) to a bigger city (>2m). These are the biggest pros as I see it:
Neutral points which people like but don’t really matter that much to me:
Cons:
On balance, the pros far outweigh the cons for me, and I will likely be staying in the city for a long time.
Holy fuck, the grift is so blatant that I’m almost beginning to respect it.
Never go into the cave
I mean, lots of comparatively wealthy people are under some pretty horrible working conditions, so I don’t know that I would call the two tightly linked.
Sure, Foxconn should probably pay at rates that are livable for their workers, but the more acute problem is probably to not drive their workers so hard that they attempt suicide.
Magastan shit
Buying assumes a willing seller, and I don’t think ByteDance are willing.
Cross-platform frameworks generally make for truly shit apps, though.
So yeah, there’s a valid excuse in that you actually want to build a good product for the end users - cross-platform frameworks are antithetical to that goal
Is the problem really one of salary when it comes to the suicide nets?
Are the workers driven to suicide for the low pay, or is this actually a matter of horrifyingly bad working conditions?
Unfortunately, I believe coffee might be a different beast. I’m not sure you will be able to achieve desirable results with that type of equipment.
In fact, James Hoffmann recently made a video on whether it’s possible to roast coffee beans in an airfryer recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyLXmbTnJIY (tl;dw: not if you want good coffee)
I think it needs to be mentioned that this particular sauce tastes bad. There are spicier things that actually contribute positively flavour-wise.
Freshly roasted coffee beans. A bag sets me back maybe $13 or so and gets me approximately 10 cups. Not what I would call outrageously expensive but I enjoy it a whole lot
Men herregud. Lås in skiten nån gång.
Gooning takes priority, no matter what
I live in the most sustainable city on the planet, Gothenburg, Sweden.
This sounds like Glenn-propaganda if I ever heard it!
On a more serious note, where did Göteborg get this award?
That is probably excluding the possibility to get run over by a random car.
All-cause mortality is just that - all-cause. The results of the study do indeed point to an increased chance of hospitalisation from traffic incidents, but bike commuters live longer in spite of this increased risk.
Sorry to hear a driver tried to kill you. This happens to me as well while commuting. We can only hope that one day, they get what they deserve.
(meme only applicable for the U.S, non-collapsed countries don’t have systems this bad)
