That’s not exactly a novel thing though, you can find that opinion on pretty much any lemmy instance besides those two. Frankly I’m more concerned about my own government spending endless amounts of money on weapons to murder civilians than I am about hong kong, people I actually know have been injured by cops protesting in the US, from where I’m standing that’s the primary violent police state to be dismantled.

yeah, but the argument was on these two

Frankly I’m more concerned about my own government spending endless amounts of money on weapons to murder civilians

I don’t want that either, but I also don’t want people giving money to China for cheap low quality products which finances konzentration camps and suppressing hongkong and I don’t like people who say the west is imperialist but in the same breath simp for China and Russia, because all nation states are imperialist by concept.

people I actually know have been injured by cops protesting in the US

for me this is the same with China, I know some chinese people that still suffer under the CCP even tho they live in another country now

I have some bad news about America if you buy food here, it’s all terrible quality and harvested with a ton of forced prison labor, America has more people imprisoned than any country on the planet. I live here so it’s a bigger issue to me than what its state enemies are doing on the other side of the planet.

I know some chinese people that still suffer under the CCP even tho they live in another country now

Is China sending cops to other countries to beat them up or something?

Oh, you mean like this? (There are plenty of news stories about this happening, even in left-leaning publications.)

I don’t get it why it’s always deflect on China, Russia, and other authoritarian regimes, but attack attack attack for the US. Why is it so terrible to admit that authoritarianism is wrong, period, regardless of whether it’s nominally capitalist or whether they claim to be communist?

China has said the centers — run by local volunteers, not police officers — help Chinese citizens renew documents and offer other services.

            K

State represssion is bad, however I live in the US, and if you live in any western country your government is far more beholden to the US war criminals than China. I prefer to focus my energy on the country supposed to be representing my interests instead doing horrible violence

Of course, China is the believable one here, right? Because normally that would be done by a consulate. And the fact that you ignore all the reporting to zero in on China’s statement is, well, kind of undermining what little credibility you might have here.

It’s like people claiming that they’re leftists, while only attacking Dems and their policies; it’s not leftism, it’s covert support for fascism.

I don’t find fearmongering about China to be worthwhile, and don’t see why I can’t take their position at face value if we’re taking western positions at face value. I really don’t see the issue with, or grand conspiracy behind, Chinese people living abroad volunteering to help other Chinese people living abroad

…That’s because you’re starting with the assumption that they’re helping, rather than acting as agents of the Chinese gov’t. You believe the denials of the Chinese gov’t, but won’t accept similar denials of western gov’ts or comparable abuses or human rights or sovereignty.

I am not going to give special credibility to ned/western backed NGOs just because they’re badmouthing China.

There are two possible contentions, one that there are dozens of secret Chinese police stations around the world being used to disappear and intimidate dissidents. The second is that it’s a bunch of volunteers living abroad helping other people living abroad to access government services.

The second one is just more plausible to me, just looks like special pleading to claim otherwise.

There wasn’t even a claim of any actual abductions in the thing you linked, just that a refugee political dissadent “felt unsafe”, because they were there. Just paranoid sounding, really.

A lot of countries have like one guy doing volunteer/low pay work in some random spot in the country far from a consulate to help people with papers and so on. Its super common.

China does cringe shit all the time, it’s got plenty of its own issues. The US is at the helm of a world spanning empire built on genocide. I don’t live in China, it’s not my first priority.
