    This is such a surprising fact:

    “Behavioral traits seem unrelated to coat color, but for reasons that scientists don’t fully understand, white spots tend to appear when the tamest individuals are selected and bred. It’s true of horses, pigs, mice, cows and rats.”

      Totally pulling this out of my ass, but could be that white makes animals stand out in their environment and more likely to be prey for predators. When the animals have humans to watch over them the white color is no longer a selection factor that determines survivability and therefore we see the white spots appear on these animals.
