This sounds uncomfortably like the fundamentalist capitalists who try to justify McCarthyism. Just saying.
There is a real and very well documented history of western capitalist powers doing everything they can to overthrow socialist projects. It’s rather dishonest to equate the acknowledgement of survivorship bias in projects that do survive with McCarthyism.
The point being made here is that when a system develops under duress, it’s necessarily going to develop negative qualities, and no socialist utopias will be possible until capitalism is overthrown as the dominant global ideology. Understanding the limits of what’s possible given the current conditions helps set realistic expectations.
The parallel is that McCarthyism was (and still is by some) justified by the specter of spies and threats to US institutions from its own citizens. They viewed capitalism as under attack by communism, and not entirely without warrant. During that general time period, we also see COINTELPRO and the rise of J. Edgar Hoover. This video is practically a mirror image of that attitude. It’s taking the easy way out by going authoritarian then blaming that on someone else.
US is not a specter of some made up threat. It’s real global empire that subjugates others through naked domination. If you have a better way than what communists found to resist the empire then do show us how it’s done. Nobody has demonstrated a better alternative that actually achieves results so far.
Spies inside the US weren’t a made up threat. There absolutely were spies. Communists trying to overthrow capitalism were absolutely a thing. It was incredibly dangerous that they were used to justify McCarthyism, COINTELPRO, and other authoritarianism in the US. Just because something is real doesn’t mean creating a secret police to root out citizens who disagree with the government isn’t a dangerous step. The US government, not the USSR or internal communists, was responsible for its abuses of its citizens. Socialist governments need to take responsibility for their own sins and not blame it on the boogie man of the US or NATO.
We have mountains of evidence today that the threats were in fact made up, and that McCarthy was a cynical liar. What you’re doing is trying to equate US propaganda campaign against communism with very real self defense of communist countries against the empire. Calling US and NATO a boogie man once again paints the narrative that the threat was not real. You are creating a false narrative here.
