Washington is concerned about Islamic militants in the Sahel region, who may be able to expand without the presence of U.S. forces and intelligence capabilities.

LMAO. You mean the same ones that have been lingering in the region for all these years that US troops have been stationed in the region? The same ones that are probably being bankrolled by the US? The ones that are now getting their asses kicked by local forces and Wagner?

Ah neolibral nimbyism. Only these fuckers could act like its controversial for Russians to come on a base in foreign, non-allied soil. A base that does not belong to the US. And then there’s this gem:

At the same time, Russia is seeking to strengthen relations with African nations, pitching Moscow as a friendly country with no colonial baggage in the continent.

“Colonial Baggage”… fucking baggage. The stuff your boyfriend has because he dated a psychopath. Colonialism isn’t baggage. Its effects, its plunders, its destruction are all still being felt in present day Niger. It still fucking exists and persists because of neoliberalism. These people are disgusting and they deserve so much worse than death for what they have done to the global south.

While no decisions have been taken on the future of U.S. troops in Niger, the official said the plan was for them to return to U.S. Africa Command’s home bases, located in Germany.

AFRICOM is headquartered in Germany lol.

Shame on Reuters for this, it’s only even remotely newsworthy for the express purpose of being misleading. They’re literally not even in the same buildings, they just both have access to different parts of a Nigerien airbase.
