Bayer AG agreed on Thursday to pay $6.9 million to settle claims by New York Attorney General Letitia James that it misled consumers by advertising Roundup weedkiller, which has been linked to cancer, as environmentally safe.
Indeed, this seems like less than a nuisance fine for a company that reported more than 13 billion Euro in earnings last year, on over $50 billion Euro in sales. Bayer press release. Then again, the $10.9 billion settlement in 2020 seems more meaningful. The Guardian
Especially when the settlement is 6.9 million dollars, like that is absolutely insane considering they probably have made billions in profit (not just revenue) on weed killer over the years.

yeah, the fine is so tiny that it’s obviously not going to change the behavior of the company
