The only reason I boot up Windows at this point is to play shooters with EAC. What do you guys play if you’re looking for a quick 20-minute firefight?
Xonotic is always a good one.
Full agree on Xonotic! Has also a somewhat active online play.
its slowly decreasing so i guess maybe to curb that people should tell others more about that game
I play a lot of Apex Legends. It works very well on Linux.
My go-tos are tf2 and tf2 - that is Team Fortress 2 and Titanfall 2. Both work great on Linux and have really dedicated communities. Titanfall 2 even has the Northstar client.
Oh wow, I used to play tons of Titanfall. I’ll check out Northstar. Thank you.
Hunt Showdown runs on Linux with Proton and it has EAC
It does!? Since when, this is news to me.
It’s been working for months
I like Xonotic
Splitgate
Why not just CS:GO? But I’m only saying this because I have no real recommendation tbh. For offline I can recommend Ravenfield. It’s really fun even though the native Linux version is kind of broken when using mods which is kinda the point of the game. Works fine using Proton though
Honestly, my only reason not to play CSGO is that I spent all of highschool playing it and just don’t enjoy it anymore.
Shatterline and Caliber
Both free to play, on Steam, and work using Proton.
Not sure if you’re fine with a paid game, but Halo: The Master Chief Collection recently got Linux support for multiplayer - though they have the Steam launch options reversed so you have to select EAC disabled at launch, in order for it to be enabled lol (thus allowing you to play online)
Additionally, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode is free, and also works on Linux.
CS:GO, Halo MCC, Overwatch 2
though I don’t know if OW2 counts as good anymore, certainly not a fan of the changes, but it still works on Linux

Fyi for anyone who hasn’t played CS:GO in the last couple of years, CS:GO now has the option for short competitive matches which are Bo16 instead of Bo30. I’m not sure they’re quite down to "20-minute firefight"s that OP asked about, but they are definitely much easier to get into than traditional competitive matches.
Battlefield 4 is still good. Plays well under Linux, graphics are good, servers are still packed and it’s quite challenging.
Older game but red orchestra 2 is a classic ww2 shooter with a decent online community. Matches are around the 20 - 30 minute mark.
I didn’t know it was still active. I have it in my Steam library. Thanks!
Krunker is nice for a quick match. You can play it directly from your browser or download it from steam
I play halo mcc and infinite and also recently started playing warframe thats more of an mmo shooter
