This holds for any website, therefore it holds for federated instances too. I wish to stress that if one instance spreads content which is deemed harmful, the responsibility is instance-side and the rest of the fediverse may act accordingly.

    My suspicion is that nothing good can scale. I like federated software because it attempts to bridge the small to the large. It’d be fun to write a piece basically examining the principles of Darius Kazemi’s experience forking Mastodon as they might apply to Lemmy. While the experience sought is very different, I think he’s hit upon some real insight as to how social media can be valuable.
