OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Several states scaled back their reporting of COVID-19 statistics this month just as cases across the country started to skyrocket, depriving the public of real-time information on outbreaks, cases, hospitalizations and deaths in their communities.
Looks like this is very state specific. Oregon has been scaling back a little by releasing only on weekdays, but that is because the pandemic is under pretty good control here. That is both the strength and weakness of the US’s approach: states can tailor their approach to their needs, but politicians can also abuse that flexibility to dodge accountability.
