If you watch the video they say that most Marxists are doomerist when it comes to the US, and we are not allowed to be proud of our history like how the the civil war was class struggle (slave revolts, strikes, moving north), and that afterwards there was positive change. Apparently WEB Dubois said there was a sort of proletarian dictatorship in the south in some parts after. Also, that the Black Panthers and stuff like that was American history and we should be proud of it. I can see that being interpreted as “patriotic,” but not reactionary, and they should not be lumped in with Maupin and company.

That sounds much more palatable, but I don’t get what WEB Dubois meant when he said some parts of the south had proletarian dictatorship.
