I don’t think I ever heard the justification, but I certainly don’t understand that. They said that they normally take the baby away for medical reasons, or that this particular baby needed to be taken away for medical reasons? And if it’s for medical reasons, why are they willing to override their medical reasons for $40?

I mean, I’m sure there’s a host of checking they do on a newborn (I’m not the child-having type and I’m not that kind of doctor, so it’s never come up). What I’m saying is that it’s obviously not a medical emergency, or paying $40 to hold your baby wouldn’t be an option. So it’s probably because the hospital charges the fee because the staff member waits to start the process, right? But that’s exactly what’s absolutely ludicrous. You’re already paying how many tens of thousands of dollars for the delivery, why tack on just that little bit? It’s not even a fraction of a percent, not to mention not letting the baby be held is inhumane to both the mother and the child. It’s like a fine dining restaurant charging you $5 if you ask the waiter for a few more minutes to look at the menu.

Please tell me I’m missing something.
