They forced us to invoke IP law, very communist lol.

We sent a formal email to the registrar explaining lemmygrad is our copyright and the copycat website was attempting to mimic us, which went against their TOS.

The host took it down just now but no word yet on what this means exactly. If they still have access to the domain or not.

We will follow them if they try something else with the lemmygrad name.

Anyway that’s that I think.

It redirects to trumps website now which was quick on their part. It’s preferable to it being a lemmy instance but I’ll look at what we can do about it later. Ideally get the domain name revoked but Web domains is not an exact science at all, its more like magic from the year 1979,so I honestly have no idea what the registrar can even do even if they wanted to.

Very neat! Seems the registrar cut the redirect too though, so hopefully we don’t have to escalate.

And if they move to another registrar (not sure they are allowed to move the domain though), we’ll just repeat the process. It’s literally more effort for them to do this than for us – we just have to copy paste an email but they have to get the authcodes, move the domain, and set up the website again. And eventually they’ll run out of registrars.

I’m sure they’re reading us so, the paragraph above is for them 🙂
