Chinese health experts called on Norway and other countries to suspend the use of mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines produced by companies such as Pfizer, especially among elderly people, due to the vaccines' safety uncertainties following the deaths of 23 elderly Norwegian people who received the vaccine.
Id don’t know much about immunology, I’m curious what are your thoughts on this?
One thing that’s kinda scary about this, is that any experts in immunology are likely to be on one side of this new cold war, so its gonna be really difficult to get impartial information about which vaccine is more effective.
All I know is that I don’t trust US pharma, and I’m super bummed I can’t get sinovac… but I’ll still get the pfizer one anyway (its looking like I’m not able to get it until summer).
while i agree, i do believe the numbers coming out of china’s reports for the reason that they are not anywhere near perfect. i’m more suspicious of 95% effective (pfizer) than i am of 50.4% (sinovac) - (note: the 50.4% comes from a phase 3 trial in brazil where the vaccine was given to healthcare workers - it was 100% effective in preventing severe cases)
