No, because rich people shit creates a disproportionate amount of waste and has a disproportionately high environmental impact. If it was just about wasting money, I wouldn’t give a shit. But it’s not.

I don’t think that selling cable ties can have a big impact on the environment. It is enough to sell 1-2 packages for this price, to have enough to be able to retire to a contemplative life, far from the consumerist and polluting world.

I guarantee you that the packaging is ultra ornate and excessive. Think apple or nest thermostat level packaging on steroids (if you’ve never seen a nest thermostat, look up an unboxing for it. The packaging is ridiculous, especially for a fucking thermostat. Most of these status symbol stuff is like that.)

Also, shipping and logistics. That burns a ton of fossil fuels even for a small item, and usually these things are riding fast “”“fashion”“” trends, so the assholes that buy them opt for the fastest shipping possible.

But, on the one hand, cable ties are almost always nationally produced and do not have the need to be exported via ships and, on the other hand, selling ~100 cable ties does not have any more impact than the quantity sold normally used by installers and technicians, who are millions. It is a mass product, which does not require special imported ingredients to produce this simple polymer (nylon, which has existed since 1930) used for these gadgets. Any source of carbon can be used as a base, that is, even plant remains from agriculture to synthesize it.
