Sponsor blocks carry a signal encoded in the video, through the googlevideoAPI, to allow YouTube Premium users to skip them. It seems very good to me, you mean how the extension works and I talk about how the sponsor blocks are inserted in the video with a code, that the extension or Piped has in its base to intercept it.

Use the front-end Piped, it block ads, restrictions, jumps sponsor blocks and even intros, or use uBlock Origin
