• He explains the reason for this in his book. If I’m not mistaken, they were running out of time and it was just a matter of time before the NSA identified him as the leaker and go after him. He tried to leave to Ecuador and needed to fly to Russia first but his passport was cancelled and now he is stuck in Russia.

Since he didn’t want to leak the actual programs and technical things to Russia, he destroyed the encripted files

I understand what Snowden did with the information and while I don’t agree with it he probably made the best choice for himself in a tough moment.

What bothers me is that the journalists (Greenwald, Poitras, MacAskill) had the whole treasure trove, and sat on it until intelligence and/or capitalists got to them and made sure the rest of the files would never be published.

        • I dont think they would be able to understand it though, Snowden had to explain pretty much everything for them since its a very specific thing. XKeyscore for example is kinda confusing. I dont think they didnt publish it because they didnt want to, I think they didnt do it because they really couldnt.

I understand people being suspicious of Greenwald specialy with thiings like in the post above or hiis little appearebces in Fox news and other shit, but I dont thinkthis event specificaly he was acting in bad faith or something like that
