Just saw this post on reddit. The consensus on the comments is that it’s completely the bikers fault and he should have waited.

I see it completely different. When he was at the intersection the street is clear and there are even people still crossing the lane on the other side of the road. (see picture)

The transporter is speeding at such an elevated speed that it was not possible to judge this.

    100% the fault of the van. Like you said, if I were the biker, I would have looked left and saw that everyone was at a reasonable distance and would also judge that it’s safe to go, especially since he had some speed.

    And the van goes at a very high speed, which should make them extra wary of people coming on the crosswalk. I mean, they shouldn’t have had that speed in that area in the first place. They should be at fault just for the speeding.
