A lot of those either came before the vaccines or were from anti-vaxxers who never got the vaccine and likely did not take the recommended precautions. I know one person who got it before the vaccines were available and three people who had it after. The one person has had a long, hard recovery. The vaccinated people had very mild symptoms for a couple of days. According to health care workers, most of the people filling hospitals and morgues were unvaccinated. So yeah, they’re effective.
Apparently China does have more effective vaccines in the works. But until then, they can’t rely on most of the population being able to shrug off the effects of COVID-19. That appears to be the real driver behind this policy. There would be massive amounts of death if they did not. They already had to back off their most draconian policies because omicron made those untenable.
That’s false, hospitalizations are on the rise right now, and increasing evidence is coming out showing that western vaccines are not terribly effective against omicron. Furthermore, experts are saying that US will basically have to gamble with what strain to make vaccines for going forward.
Most importantly, western vaccines are not effective at preventing long covid which affects around 17% of the population. Finally, these vaccines are not sufficient to drop reproduction rate below one which is what’s actually needed to contain the pandemic.
Millions of people in the west are not shrugging off the effects of covid, and it’s incredibly ghoulish to dismiss the suffering of these people.
China took the sane approach of not relying solely on vaccines to contain the pandemic and did not run an experiment on their population the way the west did. We are still finding out what long term effects of this experiment will be and how many millions of people will develop chronic health problems as a result.
The economic fallout from letting the pandemic run wild is a secondary effect. A lot of the economic problems we’re seeing today are a direct result of the failure to contain the pandemic. Long term there will be a huge economic shock from a combination of large numbers of people not being able to fully participate in the workforce and putting a strain on the healthcare system.
Again, we can see the wisdom in the approach that China took given that it’s the only major economy that continues to show growth right now.
…says CCP.
Meanwhile, their pride keeps them from using more effective foreign vaccines.
This is how “effective” these vaccines are in practice. I swear, Americans are the most propagandized people on this planet.

Does economic ruin count as a chronic health problem? Cause I have that… I mean, asking for a friend.
