Vladimir Putin just announced that Azovstal will not be stormed in order to save russian lives. Instead, a total blockade of Azovstal and its underground tunnel system will be imposed. Bombing of the complex will still continue though. Now the nazis will have to choose between surrendering or starving to death. Putin also announced the total liberation of Mariupol (except for Azovstal) and said all soldiers who participated in its liberation would be awarded for heroism. He also said April 21 will be from now on the date of the Second Liberation of Mariupol.
UPDATE: Russian forces have taken control of the ground level part of Azovstal. Only the tunnels remain out of control. Azov is blocked underground.
It’s kind of funny in a morbid way. Everyone just going back to their normal peacetime lives, but there is a massive army beneath your feet that is living in hell.
I think that’s a pretty good description of this war: Normal citizens have the misfortune of being right on top of the true enemy that the Russians are going after. And the Nazis know it and cowardly hide behind them.
