I don’t get the craze behind electric scooters. If you can afford one, why not just get an electric bike? Plus, e-bikes can carry cargo, have higher speeds, deal with rough terrain better, and even with the battery dead you can still use it as a normal bike without it getting exhausting like pushing an unpowered scooter.
And if you can’t afford one, a normal bike is 75% the utility of an electric bike. While an unpowered scooter is a toy at best.
In this case, it was a Lime scooter. I rented it to provide the last mile transportation between a bus line and the conference. I guess for the rental use case, the main argument is that a scooter just costs less. That said, my city now has an electric bike program that I would have used instead if it had existed.
I have an e-bike and for the life of me I can’t remember why I didn’t just use that for all or part of the trip. It wasn’t even very far, maybe 3-4 miles. Instead I got to spend my wedding and honeymoon in a back brace.
Increase hospital use, yup. I missed RustConf 2019 and instead took a trip to the ER with a fractured vertebra. Haven’t been on once since then.
