I think, they just didn’t want to take away people’s preferred Colorway, in case they really liked it, but didn’t either want to keep the pop-up after every upgrade or new Firefox installation. At least to me, it started to get somewhat annoying.
There’s certainly no actual missing-out. You can install many, many more themes from https://addons.mozilla.org.
