@enteroninternet That was hilariously unexpected when they did that, and it explained why the Klingons were so pissed off, considering how much they like their opera.

@JustineSmithies I’ll prolly stick around, though with the loss of 3rd party apps, my little visiting, once daily to consume content there, will likely cut down to once a week or less.
@DidacticDumbass I use hosted email from Polaris Email, $25/yr, and my domain from Porkbun at $5 for the first year, and access the mail through Thunderbird on phone and computer.
@ImOnADiet Forgot to respond, sorry. I’m referring to finding communities, that doesn’t work too well, so maybe indexing all the communities would help with that, it could be done in a DNS like way where the same index is available on multiple servers to reduce the load on any one of them. This might also help with community fracturing (same subject on multiple instances) too.
@Bicyclejohn @goatsarah I believe this one is open to new subscribers.
@jax Friendica is an option, not sure it’s the best for photos, but it certainly allows long posts
@ImOnADiet Oh? More to the point, I think it’s size is a byproduct of confusion, finding an instance, or more importantly, finding a community, is tricky, as there doesn’t seem to be an easy way and obvious way to find them like Reddit it. Lemmy, or anything comparable (I think there’s two others, one dead, one live) needs to make it just as easy if they expect to grow. Creating a way communities could be followed similar to how users are followed would also help.
@ImOnADiet I’ve tried that before, and unfortunately it doesn’t bring up anything I follow on Reddit, like Canoo, St Louis (there are two tiny MO groups), or Ford Maverick, let alone any of the porn.
@ImOnADiet Ah, gotcha, I haven’t really gotten into Lemmy, I can’t quite figure out how to use it, searches for the things I follow on Reddit come up empty, so I’m not sure if’n they’re not there or I’m just not looking in the right place.
I think Lemmy would be a great replacement for Reddit if’n there was some kind of index for the groups on there, that way it doesn’t matter the server you’re on, you’re guaranteed to find what you’re looking for.
@Bicyclejohn Firefox, whatever version is default on LM😁E, with containers, NoScript and Ublock for privacy purposes
@ImOnADiet @Veritas I’m guessing Pawoo or Baraag, the latter allows anything that isn’t expressly illegal, so anything drawn, but limits on photos, the former is Japanese, and they have different laws regarding what’s allowed compared to the rest of the world.
As to instances, rubber.social comes to mind, but I know there’s more out there as my little Mastodon instance is connected to a relay that’s basically all adult content (1 of 6 or so relays I use).
@dreiwert I’m rather happy over here on #friendica
@imgprojts The joys of Reddit, they don’t actively patrol, there’s plenty of people happy to do it for them, some of home have an axe to grind
@imgprojts Heh, small world. Lemmy could certainly use something like that, assuming it can work the same way Reddit does.
@Peter1986C Oooo, neat, thanks.
And unfortunately nothing found for any of the topics I mentioned
@realcaseyrollins @informapirata @piratepost Actually little of that is travel, STL is where I live, so that’s local news, chat, etc, Canoo is a brand of electric vehicle that might some day go into production, Roadie is a package delivery service app that I drive for, hence the two Roadie and one courier group. Amazon of Deals is just a deal finding group, any deals that you find on the web can be posted there, and Idiots is dash cam videos.
That’s where Lemmy loses me, I have no idea where to start looking, and some of these are oddball enough that likely I’ll have to find the right corner of the fediverse.
@realcaseyrollins @informapirata @piratepost Let’s see, over on Reddit the ones I’m following that I check daily are:
Amazon of Deals
Canoo
Couriers of Reddit
Idiots in Cars
Kei Trucks
Roadie
RoadieApp
StLouis
Likely I can find some or all of these, but they’ll be spread across servers, and that’s where I run into problems, how do I find stuff? I’d also like to find an alternative to my Flipboard, while I do use it as my main news source, I also use it to share all the news that interests me, so finding or creating an equivalent to my books over there’d be nice.
@realcaseyrollins @informapirata @piratepost The way it works throws me, I’m used to Reddit, just look up what you’re interested in, and subscribe, something I can’t do as Lemmy is decentralized.
@StillPaisleyCat I would agree, they did over gimmick things, but as I commented somewhere else, the original Star Trek was a low budget show, and here they have a much, much larger budget, so what can you do? What should you do? And what will the fans accept? I think this season is very much about finding that out, and makes me wonder what’s coming season 3.
