If you’re not Taiwanese yourself (i.e., one of the people who’s actually affected by what happens there), I definitely don’t care about your opinion on this topic.
I like platforms that are owned by the users.
Just joined, thanks! 👍
I use the best search engine on the internet: https://search.marginalia.nu/
The ‘random’ page is especially good to start off with.
Hey! Total non sequitur, but noticed you’re a ‘Brooklyn man’ and I’m trying to help get https://lemmy.ml/c/nyc off the ground- seems like there’s almost zero local content on Lemmy so far. Feel free to post as as much content as you want there, so there’s at least some semblance of activity for when the shit hits the fan next month (in terms of Reddit’s API)
Really unclear what any of this platform’s alleged benefits are over twitter, etc.
edit: sorry, ‘platform’ is a serious misnomer. An OS is a platform- this is just yet another attention-sucking mobile app.
Apparently this is at 894 Sixth Avenue (has been hard to track down the address)
Know if there’s any way to block entire servers when they’re as toxic and low-quality as the one you mentioned? So far it seems like the only way is to browse ‘all communities’ and get rid of them one by one
Have loved these games since OOT came out in 1998- this one’s the new best in the series IMO. Have no idea what they can possibly do with the next one
Well that’s horrific. What a pointless tragedy
Yeah, pretty much (GPT-4’s a big upgrade over the default 3.5).
That said, OpenAssistant is already really impressive for a project with such limited resources. Would love to see open-source overtake OpenAI quickly (which IMO isn’t out of the question, considering how quickly Stable Diffusion developed)
Sure! I’ve had a cheap VPS on digitalocean for a few years, mainly just to host a few web pages for friends / family. Just found their guide to getting synching running you can pretty much follow for any server you’re running.
So tldr; I get a sync
directory that’s always going to be the same on a Linux laptop, a Mac desktop, an Android phone, etc. It’s amazingly useful- and yes, I’m aware of the irony that DO is technically a cloud service (you could always take this to the next level and run a physical server on your own)
These things generate text in response to user input. Just another (pretty cool and useful IMO) tool we can use, and will probably destroy the world to the same extent as calculators, general purpose PCs, etc.
I guess the difference with those things is that we already have plenty of open-source implementations of them, so there’s no way to scare the public or the US government into locking the tech behind some kind of corporate monopoly.
Good choice! Usually just laps at the pool for me, since I’m in a pretty dense / built up area. Ideally can get over there 4-5 times a week… pairs really nicely with strength training too (if there’s time for that in the same day)
Logical move IMO. Training a model is categorically not the same as distributing unauthorized copies of a work.
Only web (on a laptop) for me. Feels like overkill to carry it everywhere
I’d be surprised if they weren’t
Syncthing, for me. Keep it running on a VPS, and you’ve obliterated the need for personal cloud services
Surprised that GNOME mobile has progressed this quickly. Looking forward to trying it out
