  • There’s honestly nothing wrong with any of those options including 2. I get people see algorithm and recommendation and have aneurisms but this space isn’t looking to harm anyone intentionally. If there’s any space we should trust with any kind of algorithms it’s this space as there’s not the same incentives that Big Social has. As long as users can consent and have control.

But to answer your question it would take some hybrid search on top of an aggregator that is explicitly public and respects people’s flags. I know Mastodon is working on a discover service

  • How is mastodon healthier? Please provide examples. Healthier for whom? As there’s an extensive list of people harmed that absolutely do not find mastodon “healthy” let alone “healthier” particularly Black and Brown folks. Bluesky defaults to the same way feeds are presented as Mastodon does, so your statement is false

Correct. You have access controls to your POD thus the data within it. As long as there’s an app built for a platform compatible with the protocols ActivityPods is compatible with, which are currently ActivityPub and Solid protocols it will work. It’s not just microblogging and not only compatible with Mastodon. So you can host your POD which would be best or even use a provider which you still have access controls. It’s like renting a locker or storage pod

That’s not true it’s compatible with anything running ActivityPub. It currently has build a Mastodon client as a demo that’s why right now you can use it with Mastodon. They built Mastopod in a week. Part of the pitch it showing devs how relatively simple it is to build apps on top of it. So if someone builds a Pixelfed, Lemmy etc app then you absolutely can use it

  • It’s multiple factors but boils down to them being easier for non-techie people to access. It’s also a culture issue. Bluesky culture is more like Mastodon than not but it is more diverse and shifts younger. Lots of gatekeepers and harassers ruined it for would be mastodon users particularly Black and Brown folk that were harassed out of the space. One of the biggest minority ran instances was shut down due to overwhelming harassment. People also don’t want to be preached to nor want to be told how to use their own damn social account and be told they’re using it wrong. Most people legit just wanted Twitter without Musk.
