Some major uncanny valley going on with this kid
Hey, thanks for this. I’m browsing through Jerboa and these don’t show up in the search results. When I open one through the link you provided it opens in a browser within the app and I can’t find a button to join the community…still trying to figure this all out.
Yeah same, it feels overhyped to me. Maybe if I had seen as a kid it would be different.
Same problem here, not an issue with other apps, just this one. Also sometimes I will be scrolling comments on a post and the page will randomly jump back up to the original post at the top.

Yes, I haven’t found a final fantasy XIV community here and I always have questions I search on Google that link back to reddit.
I don’t look at how many hours I have logged into a game, anymore than I look at how many hours I have into any other activity except for work, because I literally have to. I feel like logging hours on things just gives me existential dread no matter what I’m doing.
That being said I tend to focus on 1 game at a time, maybe 2 at the most depending on the game(s) in question. I have limited game time available in any given day so hopping around to a bunch of different games would give me an extremely limited experience of each one.
I got into FFXIV for the first time back in February I believe, and I’ve barely played anything else since. I played WoW back in high school and Star Trek online a few years back and told myself I was done with MMOs after that because of the huge time sink and how addictive they are.
But I love the FF franchise and the video clips of the various world maps were so compelling to me. FF always has a story I can get into, so I finally bit the bullet and now all my available game time goes into that.
I didn’t realize this was a thing many American homes lack or are perceived by other countries to lack? I’m in the US and have one, my teenage stepson loves it for getting water up to temp faster for his cooking. I don’t use it that often but I think it’s worth having anyway.
Yes! I use mine almost daily. Love that I can go straight from the stove top to the oven without using another dish
Hi, no experience moderating so I would not be much help. Just commenting to voice my support for growing this community.
This is the first time I’ve heard someone call the exodus from reddit “rexxit.” I haven’t been on lemmy too much yet so maybe it’s a common term I I’ve just missed but I love it.
Oh thank you, I’ll check it out!
Hi, I’m here because reddit’s ffxiv sub is down for the blackout and possibly indefinitely. Looking to migrate away from reddit now because the whole thing is kinda getting kneecapped and I expect it’s gonna get worse when the API changes happen.
Also, I play FFXIV, which you probably correctly assumed. Glad to be here, I hope to see more people in here because I don’t know where else to go for this community. I’ve heard bad things about the official forums.
I’ve only used lemmy on Jerboa so far, so I didn’t realize that was an option! Hopefully it gets incorporated into the app someday.
So far I like it. It was a little odd signing up because I would find an instance to sign up on and kept scrolling until I found a join button which looped me back to the list of instances. Or I would click on the "you must log in or sign up to comment " message on a thread hoping I could sign up that way and getting sent to the instance lists. I didn’t understand to join the instance I needed to hit join from a drop down menu at the top of the page, until I tried looking there since the other options didn’t work.
I was doing that through the website on mobile browser. Now that I have an account I am running it through Jerboa. It works well so far, I’m just learning how to find communities to subscribe to, and I’m not sure if when I search from the search options in Jerboa if I’m getting all possible results or just certain ones my instance is somehow connected to? From other comments it sounds like it’s the latter and I’m not sure how to get around that.
Other than the learning curve I like it so far. I’m trying to migrate here from Reddit and someone there recommended I try this.
Yeah, I definitely need my partner to be OK just existing with me. Especially living with someone. Im at home to decompress and regenerate. Constant need for interaction is super draining.
I just joined Lemmy because someone on reddit mentioned in it a comment on a thread regarding the blackout. It’s kind of cool getting into a community while it’s still relatively small. I’m excited to see how things grow.
Star Trek Online. I love the Star Trek franchise. I’ve spent so much time and money on it. It’s got some old ass engine that the current team can barely maintain, it’s super buggy, and there isn’t enough actual content. They keep players in a cycle of perpetual events to keep FOMO up and the events are usually the same for each time of year, with different rewards.
It’s F2P but all the desirable items are paywalled and many of those are behind gamble boxes. A single cheap ship that’s decent runs $20 USD from their store. But one can realistically easily pay hundreds for a single ship with gambling. They sell ship bundles for hundreds of dollars as well.
Graphics are ridiculously dated. End game is a selection of instances that get repetitive, playing the game is intentionally grindy to encourage spending real money (you can buyout virtually anything you can grind out). Or running a specific instance over and over to clock your DPS and try to make a leader board only visible on a 3rd party application.
The community isn’t particularly toxic but there’s very little player engagement, chat zones are usually maybe 2 different places in the game and if the conversations aren’t game related they are almost always political arguments/discussions. PVP is almost nonexistent due to limited maps for it and a lack of people queuing because they would be instantly murdered by money whales who minmax DPS.
The UI can be really confusing and there’s a lame tutorial at the start that teaches you very little about the game. You will be doing endless internet searches for what should be intuitive and basic. There’s probably more to removed about I’m forgetting right now.
