  • Reddit, particularly the AMA and the blackout, have been broadly covered repeatedly over the past week by global media including targeted business media (BBC, The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Japan Times, Reuters, Toronto Star, CBC, Business Insider India, NASDAQ.com, just to name a few). This coverage in traditional media cannot help (1) valuation estimates of Reddit or (2) acceleration of an IPO if either is the goal of u/spez’s current posture toward Apollo, etc. Reddit’s management practices appear a catastrophic mess to the investor community which is the worst possible outcome for u/spez’s longevity as CEO.

  • Using Jerboa to get into lemmy.ml (when I can … server has been sketchy since the blackout started: to be fair, it feels a bit better in the past hour or so?) and really like what I see. Been on Reddit for 14+ years and the Fediverse experience so far is very like early Reddit: learning curve but exciting to discover new people. Also joined kbin and midwest.social (trying to get an instance into the Fediverse with any kind of access today) but kbin has also been down a lot (good vibes there, too, btw). Got approved on my request for an invite to join tildes but haven’t yet (will later tonight) but expect good things there as well.

Content is absent/wanting everywhere (about as expected given the size comparison of Reddit to the Fediverse) but I’m committed to a spezless existence going forward so will do my part in populating where I’m able. I left the Facebook empire, the Twitter empire, and now the Reddit empire behind me, all mainly because their capitalistic tunnel vision destroyed my user experience (was a RIF user and loved it: they’re shutting down the end of June). I really hope the Fediverse, at least for now, will provide a haven.

  • Joined yesterday after shutting down my 14+ year old Reddit account (mourning has commenced). So far, so good. Will spend time looking around for the next few days but do consider this home now. Jerboa is an easy transition from RIF (unlike others, no complaints on functionality - it does everything I need ATM and I do remember the early days of Reddit: this is so smooth by comparison). Just need more users and more content but that will surely come quickly given u/spez’s decision-making.
