They’re gonna be in my backlog for a while, but earlier I got Kerbal Space Program 1 ( with DLC ) all for less than $15USD before tax and the Steins;Gate visual novel for something like $3.99 before tax. Would have gotten S;G Zero as well, but I am low on funds as of now.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•What emulated games hold up in 2025?English
1·8 months agoI personally think smaller scale 2000s collect-a-thon games like Ty the Tasmanian Tiger hold up pretty well. Never knew that specific series existed until maybe a year or two ago and I gotta say, it’s pretty good and runs real smooth on Dolphin on my Steam Deck ( and coincidentally better than the legitimate PS2 copy I have ).
I personally also think the PS2 Star Wars Battlefront games still hold up well enough. Love the lack of monetization and lack of online play because I hate competitive play as a more casual player.
Those games are definitely pass my recommendation checklist due to the amount/quality of content, and/or replayability level.
Another couple games that pass that checklist would be Final Fantasy X ( I never finished it, but had been enjoying it all the way ) and Sly Cooper 1 ( due to the time trials for each non-boss level adding a good amount of challenge and length ). Both on PS2.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your favorite and least favorite pure chance and pure strategy games? And why?English
2·8 months agoFavorite and least favorite strategy games: Shogi
No real reason. Just something I picked up one day out of boredom on mobile and really liked. It’s also my least favorite because I suck at it and sometimes make really dumb mistakes.
Favorite chance game: basically anything where there’s a roll of the die, a swish of a card turning over, or a clip of a coin. I love randomness, so I don’t have a problem with games of chance if I’m not betting anything.
Least favorite: gonna have to agree with OP on this one.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What does 1000€ buy you in your favourite hobby?English
2·8 months agoHad to do a quick conversion search to make sure roughly how much that would be, and I could have a day like the fairly recent day I bought a pawn shop acoustic guitar, pack of picks, and a guitar stand maybe around 10 times.
I could also, probably, head over to a CD shop I really like and buy probably close to 100 CDs ( probably much less than 90 because tax, but that’s still a lot ).
I could go to an electronics shop and get their opinion and help on upgrading my desktop motherboard, alongside upgrading to a used, few years older ( probably 2020-21 because I don’t do much that would kill it ) model graphics card if I could find a good one somewhere like eBay.
I could try to collect a physical copy of every single non-arcade, launched in America Sonic game on console. Console not included for some of them because they’re too expensive or I don’t care about them for the case of anything past xbox360 or ps3. Though, I imagine the Master System titles would be pretty expensive, so IDK how that would go.
Either that, or I would love to cheap out and just pay some people who are willing to do a copyright infringement by making some Tails plushies based on his SatAM/Adventures cartoon design/personality. Would probably be a lot cheaper and just as cool. Fulfills my hobby of having a ton of plushies/stuffed animals and be Sonic related, so bonus points to me.
I could wait for the next Steam sale and get tons of games to add to my backlog but never actually get around to. Even with my somewhat picky nature, I’m fairly certain I’d find tons of games to purchase.
I could probably get even better headphones than my already pretty good quality beats to really up my music listening. Pair that with a pretty good audio playback device and I’d be in heaven… or accidentally make myself deaf and wanna die.
I could get the remaining manga from the Bakuman series I like and, depending on price and volumes, probably get the remainders of Soul Eater ( I think I’ve only got maybe volumes 1-2 ).
I could buy a metric ton of snacks and foods from a nearby import store and an Asian market.
Hell, I could probably take a couple lessons for that guitar I bought so that way I can learn the proper way to play.
Edit:
I could also expand my dice collection and playing card collection. I would love to have a ton of decks of cards. Especially some ones where the cards are different shapes, like these little leaf shaped cards I currently own.

Are The Straights OK?@lemmy.blahaj.zone•The manosphere is very normal.English
30·8 months agoYou know, the more I think about it, the more I think these manosphere “men” should be put in daycare. They’re clearly not mentally old enough to be adults, so maybe making “dude daycares” for them wouldn’t be the worst thing on the planet.
GG! Easy match! If the players are anything like the actual software, they’re slow, extremely unresponsive when you need anything critical done, and will crash out of the lobby before the game ends.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Yes, this is what people did back thenEnglish
4·9 months agoSince I am an absolute idiot who doesn’t know what happened back then in order to rake in money off of things like betting ( either legal or illegally ), probably just ( assuming I have 'em ) listen to CDs on my CD player and hop on computer and hope I have any good games.
I haven’t seen it in years, so I could be misremembering things, but The Golden Girls.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your opinion on ray/path tracing and real time upscaling (DLSS/FSR/XeSS) in video games?English
1·9 months agoI don’t care for either of them, personally. Simple as.
I’m a simple guy. I don’t need super ultra realistic graphics/ray traced reflections, I don’t need things upscaled to “look better”. I don’t care about any benefits it could give. If the game runs and looks good enough on my 2010s TV monitor, I’ll be fine.
I am definitely not the target audience for this kinda technology.

Europe@feddit.org•Europol doesn't only want an encryption backdoor, but also your metadataEnglish
6·9 months agoRemember kids, encryption backdoors are no different to being told not to lock your backdoor because you might be doing something illegal in your house.
You’ll not only allow government access to your shit whenever they want, but also any hackers from Russia, China, North Korea, etcetera, to walk in whenever they want.
For me personally, for older electronics, eBay is my default.
For newer stuff I don’t even bother online, for the most part anymore. I try my best not to go through amazon ( even though that’s where I ended up getting my 2TB external drive and a supposedly refurbished tablet ) because I don’t wanna give them business if I don’t have to, every single time I have ever tried ordering anything on the walmart website any account I make gets flagged or some other problem arises, I have no experience with other sites like NewEgg, and I think Best Buy is a little overpriced, usually, for what I’m looking for.

7·9 months agoIn my case, yes I am worried I’m lazy enough that I won’t switch to a new account in time.
Only a backup for my phone. I’ve got an older model that I had to use during last summer and into the fall after going swimming with my, then relatively new, $200USD samsung. I’m absolutely grateful that my SIL gave me it, even if it is a probably around 10 years old model. Insecure but damn did it allow me to do what I needed.
Otherwise, not really. If my shit goes, I’m not that prepared. I should be, but I’m not.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What do you think the solution to selling progressive politics to young men is ?English
13·9 months agoMy idea, as dumb and probably ineffective as it is, would be one of the tools I hate ( AI ) to start a mass disinformation campaign that claims all the people like Joe Rogan or any of these other bad apples are weaklings that sexually prey on little kids. That, alongside any other way to make them look weak
If they play dirty, I see no reason not to do the same.

There are definitely some good pokemon fangames on PC that aren’t super difficult from what I remember.
Most other fan games I could think of are either too long, have a good amount of difficulty, or have some sort of QOL thing preventing me from recommending it.
