Spain recorded its hottest ever temperature for April on Thursday, hitting 38.8C according to the country’s meteorological service.

As if they’re lying lol. Sadly, they couldn’t go to their usual, sun-kissed correspondent on the ground, Dave England, because he voted himself out of Spain to keep the Spanish out of Britain during the Brexit referendum.

Climate change is very likely playing a role in this heatwave, according to experts in the field.

    There’s that objective BBC spirit.

Scary news. Water shortages. Incoming food shortages. Increased deaths from the heat, mostly affecting the poor. Predicted increase in fires. And this is all before El Niño. And before the fucking summer kicks in!

I don’t think North Western Europe’s populace realises that climate refugees will include half or more of Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Greece as well as the people who are really demonised by the Western press barons.

The map is interesting because it suggests Morocco and Algeria are at least as hot as Spain. But while there’s some sentences about Asia, nary a peep about North Africa. With the comment about poorer people suffering more from excessive heat than the rich, one would expect at least a little bit of concern for Spain’s African neighbours who have been kept poor by Europeans for centuries. The BBC just can’t bring itself to care, I guess.

I think the one aspect of climate change that most people don’t realize is that it might hit western countries just as hard as the global south. Most people assume that countries in hotter climates are the ones that will be most severely affected. However, these climates are already at the peak temperature now. The big changes in temperature are happening in cooler climates where temperature is catching up to the global maximum. And since these places have large temperature swings now that creates a recipe for major weather events that are highly destructive.
