Not only did it take me back to the Star Wars in my head that existed before the prequels existed but it was the most sobering depiction of struggle that Star Wars has ever achieved on screen. The prison episodes were especially moving.
What do yall think about the show?
Totally agree. They portray the evils of the United States so well through the empire. When I went back to watching the Mandolorian it felt so much worse relatively (not that it’s not a decent show, it just can’t compare). It seemed rather unique within Star Wars.
The best part of star wars is that any genre can be used to tell a story in its universe. Andor nailed a gritty spy/intrigue story in a way I don’t think we have seen with star wars.
Mando is great but it is a very different genre and feels marketed to a very wide audience. I like the classic serialized, episodic form of Mando but I prefer the grit and passion of Andor.

I’m not a big Star Wars fan but I really enjoyed Andor. The depictions were on-point because they drew inspiration from actual history (1917 Revolution, Palestine, ANC, Haitian revolution, etc). Oh and the heist storyline was inspired by the 1907 Tiflis bank robbery.
IDK, but I love the prequels.
Same. But before the prequels came to be, Star Wars (and especially the expanded universe, the games, comics, novels, supplementary literature) had a different vibe that Andor rescued and brought to the screen. The story line about the corporate weasel felt like something from before the special edition.
I thought it took far too long to give me a reason to care, and it generally bored me.
the prison arc definitely hooked me, and I’m excited for the next season. But I couldn’t come anywhere close to calling it the “best” thing personally.
if the rest of the show going forwards is as good as the last few episodes of the first season, then it could get into my top 5. but as it stands, I wouldn’t want to rewatch it any time soon.
I too, was rather confused by the first couple episodes, but it got good eventually.
Is it that good? I’ve been wary to touch upon Star Wars the last few years since seeing TLJ. Haven’t bothered with TROS. The only part of the Disney+ run I’ve seen thus far is seasons 1-2 of Mando which I thought were good in parts but not enough to get me excited to see season 3.
Pshhh TLJ was the best film of the sequals by a mile
I agree TLJ was better than the other two, but it wasn’t the best. TROS was horrendous so anything seems decent in comparison.
It shot itself on the top of my favourite sci fi drama/operas (The Expanse, BSG, B5). I did not expect it, although I love SW universe, the drama tends to be very mediocre. Andor just nails it, from the iron rule of the Empire, what it takes for a person to rebel or what does the fight demand.
I tried watching it but in the first few episodes.they have scenes where people talk in an alien language and there are no subtitles. I understand that artists try to be avant garde sometimes but I am too dummy for that.
