Witch burners were the epitome of delusional religious nuts that wished to exterminate everything just for the sake of affirming and “protecting” their faith. Modern day religious extremists would fit right in with that crowd, and they themselves would probably burn “undesirables” if given the chance, much like groups like the KKK, ISIS, and other delusional extremist groups.
