This can be extended to promotional art too. The one that immediately jumps out in my mind is Final Fantasy Tactics Advance because of the absolutely stunning color contrast it has going on. Doom’s is also just iconic. Lots of really great art out there and I’d love to hear others’ opinions on their favorites!

Doom is a great pick. Compared to music or movies or whatever, game cover art produces far fewer memorable images, but Doom’s is immortal.
I have a japanese copy of Final Fantasy VI despite not caring for the game because the cover art is one of the prettiest things I’ve ever seen.
