          I imagine that it was disabled because it’s impossible to distinguish video embedding HTML from any other HTML. It’s usually done with an iframe, which means you could put any site in there, including one that could automatically steal the user’s metadata immediately upon loading, while also playing the video so no one would know (or just youtube, which will also steal your metadata).

          I’m not sure how advanced the markdown parser Lemmy uses is, but it may be possible to add special syntax for video embedding if the parser has support for that.
