      I’m guessing, it’s related to speech, because in American English you do usually say e.g. “May 31st”, not “the 31st of May”. No idea how that difference in speech originated, though.

    Miles instead of Kilometers, pounds instead of kilograms…

    Maybe americans are the real russians, doing everything backwards.
