Chicago’s Public Housing Authority has an unusually high vacancy rate. Until they were evicted, it also had a group of unhoused people occupying one of those vacant buildings to bring attention to the ongoing vacancy problem – and to stay warm.
It’s the same story in many cities; the government doesn’t handle both managing money AND providing housing. The government should stick to just managing the funds and let private industry manage the housing.

Or even better. Seize all for profit housing everywhere, and jail the CEOs of the hedge funds that owned them and freeze their assets. Simple.
