    Entirely believable. Egypt has been quite friendly with Israel given their history, and there’s no way nobody knew this attack as being planned.

      Let’s not mince words here, Israel wanted this to happen. Hell I wouldn’t be surprised if they even loosely facilitated it somehow.

      Now they have an excuse to complete their genocide and free up the rest of their lebensraum for their pure arya—I mean Jewish state.

        even if this shit wasnt deliberately allowed to happen, the level of neglect coupled with the sheer fucking gleeful violence israel has unleashed in response makes the distinction practically meaningless

          Yup its too bad the motherfucking bibi has the reigns of Isreal and Hamas has the reigns of Gaza, it’s going to be a bloodbath (well it already is) and he’s gonna use it to push through his judicial coup.
          Some people are saying “this is Isreal’s 9/11”, we all know its curtains for people’s rights.

            It’s for sure gonna get uglier. I’m told Bibi has implemented a bunch of anti-democratic shit to rig things his way but I don’t know enough about Israeli internal politics to say for certain if that’s the case. Him and Trump seemed to think alike in that regard. (To the extent Orange Julius thinks anyway.)

            It’s quite easy to read that as “all of Israel” without the qualifiers, and I’ve seen many people on here saying just that, so please pardon the confusion.

            I think the distinction is important though, and it’s why I tend to say “fuck the CCP” and not “fuck China.”

            I have no beef with Chinese people, but a lot with the CCP.

              Yeah. If you ignore the context of where it was said, sure, it’s easy to read it in ways not at all implied by the context.

        The demographics of those affected are particularly useful politically.

        @19m58s - Noah Efron

        …the outpouring of grief has been universal and completely undifferentiated, I mean, to be really crass about it, the thousand people who were killed are—almost all of them are the kinds of people who you would see at a protest on a Saturday night. They’re almost all leftist, they’re almost all secular

        @26m24s - Noah Efron

        …people will be judging every move that the army makes and every move that the government makes: is it humane or inhumane, is it effective or ineffective, is it too weak; and they will be screaming one at the other, they will be dissatisfied, they will be angry, and then within the country as well it will not be long before—and in fact we have already begun to see some of this—before some people in the government say, you know, the reason why Hamas launched a thousand people with handheld rockets and with automatic guns to go house-to-house and murder children and their parents is because those left-wingers who are protesting every week gave them the idea that we are weak

      Given how shady both Egypt and Israel are, I am sure they knew exactly who planned the attack and for when because because the intelligence asset handler reported it in.

    What I would like to know is how often does Israel get this kind of warning? The Yom Kippur War Israel wasn’t ready because everyone kept massing troops on their border and never invading and eventually pulling back. By the time they actually invaded and started a war, Israel wasn’t prepared because they were no longer reacting.

      Yeah, they didn’t respond to the initial attacks like people who were letting it happen for political gain. What kind of diabolical plan involves you looking like an oblivious fool for several hours while you frantically organize a response?

        There was a news article posted yesterday that was talking about how Bibi was basically actively ignoring Gaza and Hamas to focus on more ethnic cleansing in the West Bank.

        The basic strategy was to apparently actually funnel a little money to Hamas to prop them up, so that the Palestinians of Gaza and the West Bank would not be able to unify.

        The constant low level attacks out of Gaza were also seen as a bonus, because they gave cover for the continued crimes against humanity inflicted on the West Bank.

        The IDF (under Bibi’s orders) even pulled soldiers off of guarding Gaza so that they could better protect settlers stealing land in the West Bank.

          Yeah, I don’t think Netanyahu is above allowing an attack for political gain. I just think his government didn’t know a major assault was gonna happen. They probably got the warning and thought Hamas would lob some missiles from inside Gaza and the Iron Dome would be their counter. Maybe an aerial response. They didn’t look like they knew they’d have to declare war and plan a ground invasion.

            Yeah, I think there’s a fertile ground between Netanyahu thinking 1000+ lives and and taking over a day to reestablish control is good for him and thinking “a bunch of rockets, most of which we’ll shoot down and the few which weren’t can be used for political/propaganda purposes”. They probably thought “something big” would be noticeable but manageable.

    This is the best summary I could come up with:

    “We know that Egypt has warned the Israelis three days prior that an event like this could happen,” Mr McCaul told reporters following a closed-door intelligence briefing on Wednesday for lawmakers about the Middle East crisis, according to AFP news agency.

    An Egyptian intelligence official told the Associated Press news agency this week that Cairo had repeatedly warned the Israelis “something big” was being planned from Gaza.

    On Wednesday, Mr Netanyahu described any suggestion that Israel had received a specific warning in advance of the deadly incursion as “totally fake news”.

    Israel has been pounding Hamas targets in Gaza in response, while residents of the territory say they have no mains electricity after their only power station ran out of fuel.

    Hamas has, meanwhile, condemned US President Joe Biden’s remarks on Tuesday saying Israel had a duty to respond to the attacks, which he called an “act of sheer evil”.

    In the wake of the Hamas attack, the US announced it was moving an aircraft carrier, ships and jets to the eastern Mediterranean, and that it would also give Israel additional equipment and ammunition.
