I like how somalia has no freedom of speech, like there’s not even a functioning government but white people dont want to go there for vacation so clearly there’s no freedom of speech. It’s like all these Koch bros maps are, just how much white people would prefer to visit. They just grabbed a racist white dude in a bowtie at the RNC conventions and paid him to stare at a map and guess like “umm Somalia yeah thats umm bad so uhh red… but umm Ethiopia is Christian though right? so yeah slightly better obviously… Greenland no data cuz its cold brrr it’s like all igloos and stuff, no phone lines even… so mysterious”

  • For Algeria the president said “political prisoners are the lie of the century… If your criticism comes from your heart then marhaba, but to be a horn of what’s behind the sea you’re wrong, they haven’t succeded and neither will their horns… Our country is strong because it follows what people want not what you the messanger of such and such want” so it makes sense.

  • Despite what you may be immediately inclined to think, this map is not uninformative. It offers a distinction between the countries and territories that bow down to the US-led imperial narrative and those who don’t. While the red countries aren’t all necessarily socialist, they evidently pose a threat to capitalist interest are are therefore worth studying. These are countries that are most likely friendly with China or are seen as more likely to be influenced by China in the coming years, and for those of us here, I think we can agree that that is trend in the right direction.

Hmmm I wonder how is the literacy rate in those countries, surely the ones where the population is deprived of the most effective way to self-educate and communicate would be less free than the countries that go lengths to give them the tools to make their own mind…

The countries who subjugated the world trough slavery, genocides, exploitation and colonization now dictate the levels of free speech, ironic.
