He was on his uninformed Ukraine take yet again. I mentioned that Russia was protecting the people of the Donbass from Azov aggression and I was instantly banned. So much for promoting a materialist understanding of the conflict. It’s pretty unfortunate that his audience is being spoon fed the same pro west narrative that the mainstream media is pushing.

Chat is only supposed to be there to agree with him. Only other rich streamers and podcasters could change his mind on anything. Thats the general vibe I get from the huge left leaning streamers.

I find it strange that his take on this, Xinjiang, and the DPRK are so out of sync with everything else that he believes in. It’s like he just stopped being a leftist, but only for these 3 specific things.

If you try to be normal on these issues you instantly get ostracised from the mainstream society. Especially the radlibs take great offence to these. He is probably being an opportunist to maintain his viewership.

Another thing is that large Twitch chats are mostly there for “hype” and donations. Actual engagement with them is very rare. Trigger finger mods ban anything that remotely derails the vibe (imperialist apologia).

I got banned once from a medium sized League streamer because I typed “you should take a day off” when he said how he was stressed and tired. It helped me reconsider the reality my relationship as a non-paying viewer with streamers and I have not watched a second any Twitch stream since then. This was a couple of years ago.

he’s still got better takes on those 3 things than almost anyone else with any pull in the online video space. Which is a little bit depressing ngl, but having any take more nuanced than “slava ukraini” or “dprk/ccp ebil tyrants” is enough to get a ton of people screaming at you and a lot of people’s brains to turn off, so the fact he even has pushed it as far as he has without totally losing people is pretty impressive

If you choose to ban appeal, make 100% sure you’re feeling okay first. His mods read and act on ban appeals (much more than the ones Hasan does on-stream), but if your ban appeal is denied, I don’t think there’s a ban appeal appeal.

As someone who used to have similar views(Ukraine, xinjiang, etc), the answer lies in Western propaganda. I think it’s because of the the reporting on these issues often includes facts that are deeply woven in to the propaganda, in a way that approaching the subjects the same way you would other news can easily lead you astray. Combine this with the fact that Western audiences are not going to be familiar with the subject matter, materialist analysis becomes actively difficult using strategies that will probably serve you well on other issues.

The way I realized my error is that I pulled a Marxist Descartes, where I did not trust any Us Media sources and rebuild my opinions from scratch using international and academic sources.

You’re certainly right, but I would expect more from Hasan. His perspectives on most other things are materialist. I think it’s more like some others in this thread have said, that he’s being careful not to drive away the fence sitters.

Also dogshit. He pushes back on the genocide narrative, but agrees that the Uyghur people were being forced into reeducation camps en mass and that their civil rights are being violated. All this without citing any evidence. How could he? It doesn’t exist. He also harps on how Xinjiang has become a surveillance state as if that’s any different than entirety of the west.
