Wait how does this work? Isn’t he already gone from the office?
He can still be convicted of his crimes while he was in office. Impeachment happened when he was still president, this is just the trial phase of that.
Also, if convicted, he would lose ex-president benefits (like taxpayer-funded Secret Service), and would be unable to run for office in the future. (which is reason enough, imo)
