I decided I would actually take a scroll through hexbear to see how their LGBT community was getting on, since that seems to be the largest and the LGBT communities I have access to are sadly lacking in activity.
I checked out their main page and read a few posts. There’s just something that irks me about people glorifying Mao who was numerically worse than Hitler.
@Dave@lemmy.nz you made the right choice.
You’re forgetting, they defederated us 😆
ohhh right, it’s the “No, I’m breaking up with you!” situation lol
Lmfao did they tell you guys that you’re an instance of racists and fascists too? I feel a fraternal bond
And anti-lgbt. They seem to like calling everyone that.
Like bruh, I don’t like your attitude, not you.
Something about incompatible views or something, if I remember right.
Not even to defend Mao, but the “X bajillion dead” numbers come from the black book of communism, which is an extremely dodgy source with really dubious ways to get the highest possible number.
It’s an ideological project that deliberately ignores people dying from hunger in countries exploited by the West (millions per year) to pretend that China under Mao was objectively the worst country ever.
That’s not to say that he’s defensible (I honestly don’t care if he is), but rather that your basis for that specific criticism is literal propaganda published for the benefit of Western moneyed interests.
I see them out in the wilds of Lemmy every so often, and while their behaviour is a lot better that it was when they showed up here, they’re constantly trying to drag their shitty politics into everything.
One example was a classic “what’s something you learned embarrassingly late” post, and Hexbears were posting BS like “politicians have our best interests at heart”, plus a few other bad takes.
Even on their best behaviour, they’re annoying.
They seem to post a lot of images in comments.
Those are emojis on their side. It will probably be fixed in the next lemmy release.
Oh. Thanks for the explanation. I thought they just … really liked to look at a lot of pictures taking up whole threads.
thats how you can see who to block.
a still image which is used as an emoji, ie data from startrek laughing (or maybe its Lore now that I think about it) indicates hexbear folk
That’s not exclusive to them though, there seems to be a lot of genuine star trek fans on the platform.
Careful now, wouldn’t want to be exposed to different thoughts. That can be dangerous. Better block them before people get ideas that don’t match mine.
I dig new and different ideas!
I do not dig insufferable twats.
If the idea that doesn’t match mine is that brigading is cool… this but not sarcastically.
Worst hot take
