I have gotten hold of a cheap drawing tablet and having a lot of fun with it. I only have experience with gesture sketching with pencil on paper but wanted to try inking and colouring too.

Drawing long curves with an ink pen brush preset is something I am having some trouble with. It is difficult for me to draw smooth curves and when I join multiple stroked together I get varying width and clear nodes which looks bad.

Would using a path to draw such curves be cool? Or should I just practice more?

I can’t speak to the exact technical details of your setup, but it’s quite common for people to find the feasibility of inking tied to tiny foibles of their setup (e.g., not just “ink with a brush” necessary, but “this brand of India ink with this size brush from this brushmaker”). the details of your brush preset may be able to help you out here, but if you have found a method using paths that works for you, absolutely go ahead with it! things like the sensitivity of your tablet may be impacting the line quality you get, so there’s really no sense in bending yourself into a pretzel to accommodate your tools.
