Domestic cats are much more of a prey species than domestic dogs (dogs came from wolves which are apex predators, domestic cats came from the smaller wildcats of Africa which had plenty of predators, and there are even researchers arguing that cats aren’t actually domesticated, but merely habituated to humans), and the instincts of a cat are a lot more atuned to getting not killed than most dogs are. So it’s a lot easier to stress out a cat than it is a dog. Keep that in mind the next time you try to pet a cat and they scratch or bite you.
