The far left wants guns to protect against the right. The conservatives and libertarians already have guns. Only the liberals don’t. Afaik.

Yes, that’s the problem. Gun regulations were passed by Reagan specifically because the anti-imperialist Left was getting armed (see Black Panthers & others). Gun regulations will never prevent the sociopaths from reaching guns, as they are the ones (or very close to them) who wield the “legitimate violence of the State”.
