Vlaams Belang (Flemish interest in English) is a far-right political party from Belgium. For a bit of context there are 3 different languages in Belgium : French, Dutch and German. And 3 regions : Flemish, Waloon and Brussels-capital.

The Flemish region has voted for Vlaams Belang in majority and the Waloon region has voted for Social Party.

For the moment things are fine because both parties don’t want to talk with each others but some Flemish cities want to vote again because they know Vlaams Belang will be even more in majority than they ever been.

The Vlaams Belang has used weird techniques to get power. Like offering beers to students for free, in exchange they make a speech. They actually think everybody do that.

What is very vile with them is that they manage communication and marketing better than anybody else. They got the biggest budget for marketing on social medias.

For example they proclaim some sort of ‘superior societies’ against ‘inferior societies’.

If you want to know more and you speak French you can check out this link. You will need to create an account tho, but I don’t think it is geo restricted, if so, just tell it to me I would upload it on Peertube.

I actually don’t know how to react to this. For them even a bad buzz is good, it reinforce the straight of their already existing people. So how can you act facing this?

It’s a very difficult thing to actually do something about, especially if you’re not from Flanders. Belgian politics is kind of notorious for being divided, especially between Flanders and Wallonia.

If you’re keen on fighting this though, it’s always best to turn to activism (even though it can be difficult). Try and expand the influence of the Socialist Party and other centre of left parties, and inspire other to do the same. The best action taken is almost always those in person.
