Finally got around to installing Protonmail Bridge and setting it up to work with Geary on Ubuntu…

Took me a little while to figure out that the bridge uses a custom password… (the setup instructions didn’t mention that)

    What I don’t like is that Protonmail Bridge is for paid users only. Like I get that they need to have exclusive perks for paid users, and I accept the limits on messages per day, storage size and the number of folders you can have for free, but connecting to IMAP/SMTP is a pretty basic feature for an Email service and is vital for people who want to back up and archive their messages offline (I don’t see how else you can do it short of forwarding the message to another provider’s mailbox or copying and pasting from the web client, the former defeats the point of protonmail and the latter is horribly inefficient). It shouldn’t be a paid feature IMO.

      4 months late but I absolutely agree. I switched back to yandex because of that. Encryption wasn’t worth the hastle of having to go to their login page every day to me.

      Edit: Ahh opensource now… May have to try it again.
