Let me explain. I’ve been looking for a software to maintain a community (mostly my local one but it’s still a bit distributed). One key thing for me, apart from discussions (which is the core feature I need), is to be able to organise events. And then I encountered this https://github.com/lowercasename/gathio/wiki/Fediverse-Instructions. You can see, technically, subscribing to an event is subscribing to a remote user, and RSVPing to an event is voting in a poll. So here comes my question. Though anyway I’m looking for any events provider, not specifically the Gath.io. FYI /u/dessalines
I think there are already some event focused ActivityPub services which have a bit better abstractions than Event = Person and RSVPing = Voting. Mobilizon is one such service, from the french company Framasoft, but I’m not a fan of patreon/kickstarter for open source software. :)
The good thing of the fediverse is that you can (theoretically) use a user account on one service to interact with others.
Yeah, seem that they are fine sacrificing spec compliance for interoperability with obviously broken implementations (namely Mastodon). It drives me a bit bonkers to see devs doing this.
Not a dev, but since there is no local user following currently, what makes you think there would be remote?

I think Mobilizon is not ready yet. There’s also Gancio, but seems their federation model is a bit weird, correct me if I’m wrong.

Do you know if Mobilizon is planning to use a proper federation approach?
Nope, I am not affiliated with them in any way.
Btw, what’s wrong with Patreon/Kickstarter for open source?
Nothing’s wrong. I just don’t like it.
