    The japanese were prepared to surrender after the Soviet invasion of Manchuria, not the bombs. The bombs were dropped due to cold war politics. They were practically just a stunt to scare Soviets.

        To add to what was said, the U.S. wanted unconditional surrender when Japan’s only condition for surrender was that they keep their emporer. After the U. S. dropped the bombs and Japan surrendered, they let them keep the emporer anyway. They bombed them for practically no reason besides trying to intimidate the Soviets and anyone else who would stand against them.
