During the pandemic, plant-based meat consumption and media coverage exploded. Now, a host of trend pieces decry its demise. That shift is no organic accident.
Reason #3, nutrition. Plant-based meat just has less scarce vitamins and minerals, and generally has the same downsides as real meat anyway (with a few notable exceptions). The things a plant based meat wins on, I can easily get in a cheap generic multivitamin. The things in meat that aren’t in plant-based meat are far harder to get (and digest…bioavailability is a factor), and for some of those missing vitamins some would say impossible (no pun intended).
If you have an otherwise balanced diet, neither will hurt you. Then price and taste win over. I think there will be a real problem getting plant-based meat to match real meat on the harder nutritional reasons.
